2. Today, we study two points of grammar: 1. Review the connectives: and, but, because, or, so, therefore, however. 2. Study some phrasal verbs: turn off, turn on, look for, look after, go on.
3. 1. CONNECTIVES: • And: được dùng để kết nối 2 từ, 2 nhóm từ, 2 mệnh đề độc lập có nghĩa tương đương. E.g: My sister is beautiful and intelligent. • But: được dùng để kết nối 2 từ, 2 nhóm từ, 2 mệnh đề độc lập có nghĩa tương phản. E.g: He is not good-looking but his son is very handsome. • Because: đứng trước mệnh đề phụ chỉ nguyên nhân. E.g: Nam feels tired because he stayed up late last night. • Or: dùng để chỉ sự lựa chọn. • E.g: Do you like watching film or going shopping?
4. • So: đứng trước mệnh đề phụ chỉ kết quả. E.g: She studied hard, so she passed the exam easily. • Therefore: được dùng để kết nối 2 câu, chỉ kết quả. E.g: He failed the math test. Therefore, he had to take the exam again. • However: được dùng để kết nối 2 câu, chỉ sự trái ngược. E.g: She worked very hard. However, she earned a little of money. • Lưu ý, khi dùng “Therefore, However” phải sử dụng dấu phẩy phía sau nó. Phía trước có thể dùng dấu chấm hoặc dấu chấm phẩy. E.g: He failed the final test; therefore, he had to do the test again.
5. Exercise 1: Complete the sentences. Use the correct connectives. a) Mrs. Quyen bought corn, potatoes and cabbages at the market. b) I’d love to play volleyball _______ I have to complete an assignment. c) Nam got wet _______ he forgot his umbrella. d) Hoa failed her math test. _______, she has to do the test again.

8. 2. PHRASAL VERBS: • Ngữ động từ là những động từ kết hợp với trạng từ hoặc giới từ để tạo thành 1 nhóm động từ với nghĩa khác biệt so với động từ gốc. E.g: turn on: mở (công tắc, thiết bị) look for: tìm kiếm look after: chăm sóc, trông nom
